3-dimensional digitization of human beings is becoming the new technological challenge for numerous applications such as fitness, entertainment (3-D avatars), online apparel sales, garment size recommendation, mass customization (made-to-measure clothing) and many others.

Most of the 3-D techniques currently used to "scan" human bodies are coming from the industrial application domains (automotive and mechanical industries). These techniques are highly accurate for static objects but not suited for capturing human subjects because of body movements and underwear reflectance.
